India under the captaincy of World Number 1 T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav are set to take on South Africa in the three-match T20I series, starting with the first T20I within a few minutes at the Kingsmead in Durban. Recently, Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian team defeated Australia by 4-1 in the five-match home T20I series.
Notably, Suryakumar Yadav is leading the men in blue in the absence of frequent T20I skipper Hardik Pandya, who is not in action for Team India due to an injury that he sustained in the league match against Bangladesh during the ODI World Cup 2023.
Suryakumar Yadav clears his stance over the question of captaincy
Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav came up with a big statement while answering the question of leading Team India regularly in the T20Is in the absence of star all-rounder Hardik Pandya. Apart from that, SKY also praised the young Indian side, that recently won the T20I series against Australia.
“The guys whom I am watching right now in the T20s are very expressive and very fearless. I have that attitude. They aren't afraid of failure. Whatever happens, if they do good or if they don't get runs on that given day, their attitude remains the same. I think that balance is really important and I have just told them just enjoy this format, just be yourself,” said Suryakumar Yadav during the pre-match press conference before the first T20I of the three-match series against South Africa.
“From a personal point of view, it (captaincy) is a big responsibility. I enjoyed it in the last series (against Australia). I would love to do the same (winning) in the coming series in South Africa. From the larger perspective, I feel we'll see what comes ahead but for now, let's focus on the series," he added later.
Notably, Hardik Pandya has been rested from Team India's entire bilateral assignment against South Africa, including T20I, ODI, and Test Series.
