Gautam Gambhir and Wasim Akram discussed about the future of Babar Azam. The star cricketer recently stepped down from captaincy following the bad performance of Pakistan in the ODI World Cup 2023. In recent interview, Gambhir and Akram were discussing the future of Pakistan and Babar. The former cricketers spoke about the batsmanship of Babar.
Gambhir felt that one could see a different version of Babar Azam, as he gave up his captaincy. The former Indian cricketer was of the opinion that Pakistan team captaincy was a burden on Babar's shoulders. He believed that the lack of responsibility might bring the best out of him. Gambhir added that the new Babar might be a dangerous batter, as there would be less pressure on him.
"You will see a new Babar Azam now. I had said before the World Cup he can be the best batter. But, there was the pressure of captaincy. Now, the world will see a new Babar Azam, a different Babar Azam," said Gambhir. The opinions of the former Indian batter was agreed upon by Wasim Akram, who felt that one could see Babar batting more freely than ever.
Wasim Akram's suggestion to Babar Azam
Akram said that he did not want to see Babar leading his league sides. The former Pakistan cricketer added that he had once asked Babar to play like a pure batter in the leagues and not as a captain. Wasim said that he had asked Babar to go behind money, play cricket, score runs, and go home and repeat the same day in and day out, but not to lead the sides.
"I agree. I had a given this idea to Babar Azam a couple of years ago that don't do captaincy in league cricket. Big player, take your money, play your game, get runs, go home, and then to the next event," said Akram. Pakistan is up against Australia in a Test series currently, which is the first series of the side without Babar as a captain in a long time.
