Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah has been withdrawn from the squad for the upcoming fourth Test against England, which starts on Friday in Ranchi. The Indian Cricket Board confirmed the decision, citing workload management as the reason.

Bumrah has been a pivotal part of India's bowling attack throughout the series, taking 17 wickets in six innings. However, with the series already extended and important tournaments like the IPL and T20 World Cup on the horizon, the selectors have opted to give him a well-deserved break. To compensate for Bumrah's absence, Mukesh Kumar has been recalled to the Indian squad for the upcoming Test match. Kumar was previously released from the squad during the third Test to participate in the Ranji Trophy. It remains to be seen if he makes it to the playing XI or if the management decides to play another spinner.

KL Rahul continues to be sidelined

Meanwhile, KL Rahul's further participation in the series remains uncertain as he has been officially ruled out of the 4th Test in Ranchi. This news follows his absence from the 2nd and 3rd Tests due to a lingering quadriceps injury sustained in the 1st Test. While reports indicated Rahul was fit before the Rajkot Test, it seems his recovery hasn't progressed enough for him to take the field again. His availability for the series finale in Dharamsala is also contingent on further fitness assessments.

With Rahul being unavailable, Rajat Patidar is likely to get another opportunity, having failed to get going in his first two encounters. In 4 innings, he has scored just 46 runs. Having seen Sarfaraz Khan go out and score two half-centuries on debut, Patidar will be determined to make a statement in Ranchi to keep himself in the reckoning for future tours.

Updated squad: Rohit Sharma (c), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Rajat Patidar, Sarfaraz Khan, Devdutt Padikkal, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Washington Sundar, Dhruv Jurel, KS Bharat, Mohammed Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Akash Deep

The 4th Test of the series will get underway on Friday, February 23 with India leading 2-1.
