A few of the IPL teams left cricket fans in shock after they released some big names ahead of the mini-auction for the upcoming Indian Premier League 2024. The list includes the likes of star Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood, who was released by his former franchise RCB.

Apart from him, a lot of star players were released by the franchises before heading to the auction for the next season of the tournament. Still, there are a few players who were released by their previous franchises but could be a big deal in the mini-auction for the upcoming edition.

With said that, here we’ll have a look at the top 3 bargain players who might be picked in the lower values than expected but can make a big difference with their experience and the performances.

Shardul Thakur

The star Indian bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur was released by the Kolkata Knight Riders on the IPL 2024 retention day. So, he is set to be available for the upcoming mini-auction for the Indian Premier League 2024. Shardul was also a part of Team India in the recently concluded ODI World Cup 2023 but he was replaced by the veteran pacer Mohammed Shami in the later part of the tournament.

However, the 32-year-old failed to live up to the expectations in the Indian Premier League 2023 while playing for KKR; but considering T20 experience, a few of the franchises might look ahead to get him onboard to add both an extra bowling and batting option in their squad.

Tristan Stubbs

The young South African wicketkeeper-batter Tristan Stubbs started his IPL career for the five-time champions, Mumbai Indians in IPL 2022. Since then, he played only 4 IPL matches till his last IPL appearance in the 2023 edition. In the further line of events, Mumbai Indians recently released him ahead of the mini-auction for the next edition.

Apart from IPL, Stubbs has a good experience of playing T20 cricket across different franchise leagues. Expecting a bright future in him as he is still a young prospect, Tristan Stubbs could also be a good business deal for any IPL side.

Wanindu Hasaranga

The star Sri Lankan all-rounder was in action for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League 2023; he failed to impress the franchise with his performance as he could scalp only 9 wickets in 8 innings of the 8 matches, he played and scored only 33 runs with the bat in 3 innings of the 5 matches, he batted. Subsequently, he was released by RCB, vacating a space to pick another player in the squad.

Later, Hasaranga stunned everyone with his sensational performance in the Lanka Premier League 2023, ending up both as the leading run-scorer and leading wicket-taker in the tournament; he scored 279 runs with the bat, alongside scalping 19 wickets with the ball. He is out of action from cricket due to the injury but his current form could be a good sign for the IPL franchises during the mini-auction.
