The T20I return after a long wait of 14 months couldn’t be the one the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma would’ve expected. In an unfortunate line of events, the Indian captain got dismissed unluckily in a run-out in the second innings of the ongoing first match of the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan.

The misunderstanding happened between Rohit Sharma and his young opening partner Shubman Gill just at the second ball of the second innings; Rohit played the full-length delivery to the mid-off and immediately called for a single but the non-striker Shubman Gill was looking at the ball and didn’t move from his crease.

Eventually, both the batters ended up being in the same crease and the wicketkeeper Rahmanullah Gurbaz didn’t make any mistake in dismissing Rohit Sharma after receiving a throw from Ibrahim Zadran.

India lost two early wickets in run chase

Speaking of the current action of the match, India are chasing the target of 159 runs in the second innings; they have scored 43 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in 6.2 overs, having Shivam Dube and Tilak Varma there in the middle at the individual scores of 12 and 8 runs, respectively. Shubman Gill also got dismissed off Mujeeb Ur Rahman in the 4th over after scoring 23 runs off 12 balls, with 5 fours.

Earlier in the first innings, the hosts’ skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and asked Afghanistan to bat first; after getting a 50+ partnership for the first wicket, the visitors lost their first three wickets within the next 7 runs and were in trouble at 57 runs for the loss of 3 wickets. But then came a brilliant 78-run partnership for the fourth wicket between Azmatullah Omarzai and former skipper Mohammed Nabi before the former got dismissed at the team’s score of 125 runs. Nabi and Omarzai played the crucial knocks of 42 and 29 runs, respectively to help Afghanistan post 158 runs for losing 5 wickets in 20 overs.
