MI Cape Town completely outplayed the Joburg Super Kings in the 4th match of the ongoing SA20 2024; Kieron Pollard’s men won the match by a big margin of 98 runs to register their first win in the tournament after losing their first match of the campaign against Durban’s Super Giants by 11 runs due to DLS.

Joburg Super Kings won the toss and asked the visitors MICT to bat first at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on Saturday, January 13 2024. However, this decision completely backfired as MI Cape Town’s explosive opening duo of Rassie van der Dussen and wicketkeeper-batter Ryan Rickelton broke the record with their amazing opening partnership.

Rassie van der Dussen carries an onslaught against JSK bowlers

The duo of Rassie Van der Dussen and Rickelton stitched an unbelievable partnership of 200 runs for the first wicket in MICT’s favour; it is the highest-ever partnership in SA20. Van der Dussen scored a swashbuckling century, scoring 104 runs off just 50 balls, with 9 fours and 6 sixes, alongside 98 runs scored by Ryan Rickelton off just 49 balls, hitting 6 fours and 8 sixes.

On the back of these two blistering knocks, MI Cape Town posted a massive total of 243 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Nandre Burger scalped two wickets for Super Kings in the first innings, alongside one wicket each picked by Lizaad Williams, Romario Shepherd, and Imran Tahir.

While chasing the target, the batting lineup of the Super Kings completely surrendered against the bowling arsenal of MICT; MI’s bowlers bundled out JSK just at the score of 145 runs in 17.5 overs and won the match by a big margin of 98 runs. George Linde and Olly Stone scalped two wickets each for the visitors, alongside one wicket each picked by every bowler who got a chance to bowl.

Now, Kieron Pollard-led MICT have also moved to the spot of the points table in the SA20 2024, with one defeat and one loss in the two matches, they played so far.
