'U just gotta hate DLS' - Fans react Durban Super Giants beat MI Cape Town by 11 runs as per DLS method in 2nd match of SA20 2024

Durban's Super Giants registered the first victory in the first match of their SA20 2024 campaign. Keshav Maharaj's men won by 11 runs as per DLS method in a rain-affected match against MI Cape Town.

MI Cape Town and Durban’s Super Giants locked horns in the second match of the ongoing SA20 2024. The hosts’ skipper Keshav Maharaj won the toss and asked MICT to bat first; batting first, Cape Town posted a big total of 207 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Star wicketkeeper-batter and opener, Ryan Rickelton played a blistering knock of 87 runs off just 51 balls, with 6 fours and 6 sixes. He also stitched an amazing opening partnership of 82 runs with the star batter Rassie van der Dussen in 7.3 overs.

Besides Rickelton’s sensational knock, skipper Kieron Pollard also played a crucial knock of 31 runs off just 14 balls, with 4 fours and a six to help MI Cape Town post a massive total of 207 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the first innings. 

Keemo Paul scalped 2 wickets for the Super Giants, alongside one wicket each picked by Richard Gleeson, Keshav Maharaj, and Dwaine Pretorius.

Heinrich Klaasen powers run-chase in hosts' favour

While chasing the target, DSG was in trouble after losing two wickets just at the score of 12 runs in 2.2 overs. They faced another blow when they lost their third wicket at the score of 52 runs in 6.1 overs. But then came the sensational Proteas batter Heinrich Klaasen, who smashed 85 runs off just 35 balls, with 4 fours and 8 sixes, registering an unbelievable strike rate of 242.85.

However, the match was interrupted due to rain when DSG had scored 177 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 16.3 overs; it was the time when they needed 31 runs in the remaining 21 balls. At the time rain interruption, star pacer Kagiso Rabada had scalped 2 wickets for MICT. Besides him, Beuran Hendricks, Sam Curran, Olly Stone, and Liam Livingstone also picked one wicket each. However, the match couldn't restart after the rain interruption and eventually, Durban's Super Giants won by 11 runs as per the DLS method. Heinrich Klaasen won the 'Player of the Match award for his sensational 85-run knock.
