The ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 has been a run-fest and a paradise for the batters so far; but on the other hand, there have been also instances when bowlers dominated in the first powerplay of the match and batters completely looked clueless against the ball movement in the first 10 overs of the game.

It has also left the batters struggling to score in the powerplay overs to get the momentum and post some big scores in the first powerplay of the match. There’ve been a few matches in the tournament when the batting side has been on the receiving end of some tough moments in the first 10 overs.

Afghanistan – 28/2 in 10 overs against New Zealand, Chennai

New Zealand and Afghanistan locked horns in the 16th ODI World Cup 2023 match. Afghanistan won the toss and asked the Kiwis to bat first; batting first, New Zealand posted a total of 288 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the allotted 50 overs. While chasing the target, Afghanistan crumbled against the bowling attack of New Zealand and they could score only 28 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in the first powerplay, which is the fifth-lowest total during the powerplay phase in the ODI World Cup 2023. 

India – 27/3 in 10 overs against Australia, Chennai

It was the 5th match of the tournament and the hosts India were taking on the five-time champions Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on October 8. India bundled out Australia at the score of 199 runs in 49.3 overs, which was looking quite easy to chase for India but the Aussie bowlers completely changed the dynamic after taking 3 wickets of India in 10 overs of the first powerplay. Alongside that, India registered the fourth-lowest powerplay total in the tournament, scoring 27 runs for the loss of 3 wickets.

Netherlands – 23/2 in 10 overs against England, Pune

Near the end of the tournament’s league stage, two European rivals, England and the Netherlands took on each other in the 40th match of the tournament. England posed a big total of 339 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the allotted 50 overs. While chasing the target, the Dutch team completely struggled to get going in the first powerplay while chasing and they could score only 23 runs for the loss of 2 wickets during the first powerplay.

South Africa – 18/2 in 10 overs against Australia, Kolkata

This score came in the ongoing second semi-final of the tournament between South Africa and Australia. The Proteas skipper Temba Bavuma won the toss and decided to bat first, batting first, they are struggling at the score of 44 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 14 overs. Apart from this, South Africa scored the second-lowest powerplay total of the tournament, with 18 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in the first 10 overs.

Sri Lanka – 14/6 in 10 overs against India, Mumbai

It was one of the disastrous days for the Sri Lankan team as they got bundled out just at the score of 55 runs in 19.4 overs while chasing a massive target of 358 runs against India in the 33rd match of ODI World Cup 2023. Meanwhile, they also registered the lowest powerplay total in the tournament so far, scoring only 14 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the first 10 overs of their innings.
