Star Pakistan pace spearhead Shaheen Shah Afridi made a strong comeback in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 match against Australia after a blistering start from the Aussie openers. Shaheen provided the first breakthrough for the men in green when the opening pair of David Warner and Mitchell Marsh had posted a massive partnership of 259 runs for the first wicket.
He took two wickets in two consecutive balls on two occasions in the match against Australia. He also claimed a five-wicket haul after conceding a lot of runs in his opening spell during the first innings. With this amazing performance against the five-time World Cup champions, Australia, Shaheen also became the first ever Pakistan bowler to scalp more than one five-wicket haul in the history of the ODI World Cup.

Afridi picked 5 wickets at the cost of 54 runs in his quota of 10 overs, including a maiden over. Other than him, another star pacer Haris Rauf also made a good comeback with the ball and scalped three wickets after conceding only 24 runs in the four overs of his second spell in the first innings. This spell came from Rauf after he conceded 59 runs in just 4 overs of his first spell, without taking a wicket.
Pakistanβs comeback also restricted Australia from scoring the predicted score of 400+ which was expected owing to their swashbuckling start earlier in the first innings. After losing wickets at the regular intervals, Australia still managed to get quite a bit big total of 36\ runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the allotted 50 overs.
The veteran opener David Warner played a swashbuckling knock of 163 runs off just 124 balls, with 14 fours and 9 sixes with the willow. Other than him, his opening partner Mitchell Marsh also scored a century, scoring 121 runs, with 10 fours and 9 sixes.
Currently, Pakistan have scored 56 runs for no loss in 9.2 overs while chasing a massive target of 368 runs, with openers, Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq there in the middle at individual scores of 21 and 30 runs, respectively.
