South Africa defeated India by 8 wickets in the second ODI of the three-match series to equal the series by 1-1 before heading to the series decider.

South Africa equalled the three-match series with India by 1-1 with a win by 8 wickets in the second ODI against India. The hosts’ skipper Aiden Markam won the toss and asked the men in blue to bat first; batting first, Team India got bundled out on a low total of 211 runs in 46.2 overs.

None of the Indian batters could impress with their outing in the first innings except two half-centuries scored by young opener Sai Sudharsan and the skipper KL Rahul, respectively. Sudharsan and Rahul played the crucial knocks of 62 and 56 runs to help India reach a respectable total of 211 runs in 46.2 overs.

Young Proteas pacer Nandre Burger scalped three wickets for the hosts, alongside two wickets each picked by Beuran Hendricks and Keshav Maharaj. Apart from these three, Lizaad Williams and Aiden Markram also claimed one wicket each for South Africa in the first innings.

Tony de Zorzi goes after the Indian bowling attack to win the match for South Africa

While chasing the target, South Africa got a strong opening start from the opening pair of Reeza Hendricks and Tony de Zorzi; the duo stitched a partnership of 130 runs for the first wicket in 27.5 overs. Tony de Zorzi scored a match-defining century in South Africa’s favour, scoring 119 runs off 122 balls, hitting 9 fours and 6 sixes with the bat. He also won the ‘Player of the Match award for his amazing century to win the match for South Africa. 

Apart from De Zorzi, his opening partner Reeza Hendricks also played a knock so 52 runs, hitting 7 fours with the bat followed by a 36-run-knock played by the star number three batter Rassie van der Dussen. Later, South Africa comfortably crossed the line in 42.3 overs, scoring 215 runs for the loss of 2 wickets and won the match by a big margin of 8 wickets.
