In what seems to be a disappointment for the cricket fans, the first T20I of the three-match series between South Africa and India got abandoned without a ball being bowled. The heavy rain in Durban forced the officials to come up with the decision to call off the T20I series opener at the Kingsmead.

Now, both teams will lock horns in the second T20I of the series at St George’s Park in Gqeberha on Tuesday, December 12. Notably, Team India are coming off with a 4-1 win in the recently concluded five-match T20I series against Australia. The men in blue played the T20I series against Australia under the captaincy of stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav.

On the other hand, it is the first assignment for South Africa after the end of the ODI World Cup 2023 in the second semi-final, where they lost to Australia by a narrow margin of 3 wickets. Speaking from Team India’s point of view, the management has rested the regular skipper Rohit Sharma and former skipper Virat Kohli from the white-ball leg, including T20I and ODI series against South Africa. The veteran duo will feature for India in the upcoming two-match Test series against the hosts.

In the absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma, the management has named KL Rahul as the ODI skipper, while Suryakumar Yadav, as the T20I in the white-ball leg against the Proteas.

Here’s a look at India’s squad for the T20I series against South Africa:

Suryakumar Yadav (Captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan (wk), Jitesh Sharma (wk), Ravindra Jadeja (VC), Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Mohd. Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Deepak Chahar.

Notably, the ongoing T20I series against South Africa is the second captaincy assignment for the World Number 1 T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav.
