Speaking of the action of the match, Pakistan faced another defeat against New Zealand in the five-match T20I series. The Blackcaps won by 21 runs to gain a lead of 2-0 in the five-match series. Pakistan skipper Shaheen Afridi won the toss and asked the hosts to bat first; batting first, New Zealand posted a decent total of 194 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
Star opener Finn Allen played a blistering knock of 74 runs off just 41 balls, hitting 7 fours and 5 sixes. Besides him, skipper Kane Williamson and Mitchell Santner also scored 26 and 25 runs, respectively, alongside 20 runs scored by 20 runs off 15 balls, with 3 fours.
Haris Rauf and Abbas Afridi scalped 3 and 2 wickets, respectively, alongside one wicket each picked by Aamer Jamal and Usama Mir.
Later in the second innings, Pakistan failed to chase down the target as they got all-out at the score of 173 runs in 19.3 overs. Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman scored the crucial half-centuries, scoring 66 and 50 runs, respectively. But their knocks went in vain as the other Pakistan batters couldn’t take charge against the hosts’ bowling attack.
Now, both teams will take on each other in the third T20I of the five-match series on Wednesday, January 17 at the University Oval in Dunedin.
