Paarl Royals cleared off the books of their defeat against the Pretoria Capitals in the first edition’s semi-final as they won by 27 runs in the third match of the ongoing SA20 2024. Both teams played this match at Boland Park in Paarl on Friday, January 12 2024.
The visiting skipper James Neesham won the toss and asked the hosts to bat first; batting first, the Royals posted a decent total of 160 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Skipper David Miller played a crucial knock of 41 runs off 33 balls, hitting 4 fours. Besides Miller, Mitchell Van Buuren and Andile Phehlukwayo also scored 28 runs each, following a 23-run knock played by opener Jason Roy.
Daryn Dupavillon and Corbin Bosch scalped two wickets each for the Capitals in the first innings, alongside one wicket each claimed by Eathan Bosch, James Neesham, and Will Jacks.
Pretoria Capitals fail to go past Royals' bowling attack
While chasing the target, the visitors couldn’t get a good start as they lost their first wicket just at the score of 18 runs in 1.3 overs. Later, they failed to get going against the bowling attack of the hosts. Opener and wicketkeeper-batter Phil Salt was the only batter to cross the individual mark of 30+ runs, scoring 39 runs off 31 balls, with 3 fours and 2 sixes.
Besides Salt, Rilee Rossouw and skipper James Neesham also scored 29 and 21 runs, respectively; but these knocks couldn’t help Pretoria to chase down the target; they ended up scoring only 133 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the entire 20 overs.
Eventually, the Royals won their campaign opener in the ongoing SA20 2024 with a 27-run win over the Pretoria Capitals. Last time, it was in the first semi-final of the SA20 2023 when both teams faced each other and Capitals emerged victorious that day by 29 runs to make it to the finals of the inaugural edition.

Neesham is so destructive in t20 cricket, he makes batting looks easy, you could see he was trying his best but the pitch was just too slow
