Just a day after getting released by the Gujarat Titans on IPL 2024 retention day, star Gujarat batter Urvil Patel smashed a blistering century in the just-concluded Group D match against Arunachal Pradesh in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. Both teams played this match at the Mahajan Cricket Academy Ground, IT Park in Chandigarh. Gujarat skipper Chintan Gaja won the toss and asked Arunachal to bat first.
Gujarat bowlers bowled brilliantly and bundled out Neelam Obi’s men at the score of just 159 runs in 35.1 overs. Jayveer Parmar and the veteran spinner Piyush Chawla scalped three wickets each for Gujarat in the first innings. Other than these two, Arzan Nagwaswalla and skipper Chintan Gaja also picked one and two wickets, respectively.
Urvil Patel's 41-ball 100 helps Gujarat to secure a mammoth win over Arunachal Pradesh
While chasing the target, the star wicketkeeper-batter Urvil Patel came to open the innings with the veteran opener Priyank Panchal. Urvil came up with all guns blazing as he smashed a swashbuckling unbeaten century off just 41 balls, scoring 100 runs off 41 balls, hitting 9 fours and 7 sixes.
On the back of his century, Gujarat comfortably chased down the target in just 13 overs, scoring 160 runs for the loss of just wickets with a massive run-rate of 12.30 and won the match by a big margin of 8 wickets.
Coming back to Urvil Patel, he is also in the headlines as his century came within a few hours after the Gujarat Titans released him from their squad for the upcoming Indian Premier League 2024.
Speaking of the Gujarat Titans, they are now left with the remaining salary purse of INR 38.15 crores, having 8 slots for Indian players and 2 slots for overseas players. Apart from that, GT were also involved in a massive all-cash trade of former skipper Hardik Pandya to his previous franchise Mumbai Indians.
Here’s how fans reacted to Urvil Patel’s century after Gujarat Titans released him:
