Young uncapped Indian batter and Assam’s skipper in Ranji Trophy 2024, Riyan Parag stunned everyone with his sensational century against Chhattisgarh in the ongoing edition of the Ranji Trophy. The brilliance of Parag’s knock was that it came for Assam when they were struggling while following on in the second innings against Chhattisgarh.

Earlier in the match, the visiting skipper Riyan Parag won the match and asked Amandeep Khare’s men to bat first. Batting first, the hosts Chhattisgarh posted a good total of 327 runs in the first innings courtesy of an amazing century scored by skipper Amandeep Khare (116 runs, 12 fours and 3 sixes)

Besides skipper Khare, the senior batter Shashank Singh also played a crucial knock of 82 runs to help his side post a challenging total against Assam.

In reply to Chhattisgarh’s 327 runs, Assam was bundled out at the score of 159 runs in their first innings; subsequently, the hosts skipper enforced a follow-on and asked Riyan Parag’s men to bat again in the second innings.

Assam’s second innings completely revolved around the batting heroics of Riyan Parag, who smashed 155 runs off just 87 balls, hitting 11 fours and 12 sixes. Besides this, he also registered the record for the second-fastest century in the history of the Ranji Trophy. The 22-year-old completed his century off just 56 balls, he is now just behind the star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, who smashed the fastest century in Ranji Trophy, while playing against Jharkhand in Thiruvananthapuram during Ranji Trophy’s 2016-17 edition.

However, Riyan Parag’s sensational 156 couldn’t deny a massive loss of Assam against Chhattisgarh as the hosts were given a tiny target of 87 runs to chase in the fourth innings. They comfortably crossed the line and chased down the target in 20 overs, scoring 87 runs for no loss and won the match by 10 wickets to start their campaign on a higher note.
