In recent news, Mumbai Indians announced Hardik Pandya as the captain for the next season of the Indian Premier League in 2024. Hardik replaced the joint-most successful skipper of IPL history, Rohit Sharma, who captained Mumbai Indians for 10 years across 11 IPL seasons.
MI achieved historic milestones under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy as they won 5 IPL titles since he took over the side's captaincy. But now, he will not be the captain of Mumbai Indians anymore in the Indian Premier League.
Meanwhile, the franchise also came up with a special message for the former skipper Rohit Sharma after the announcement of Hardik Pandya’s name as the skipper.
“Ro, In 2013 you took over as captain of MI. You asked us to Believe. In victories & defeats, you asked us to Smile. 10 years & 6 trophies later, here we are. Our forever captain your legacy will be etched in Blue & Gold. Thank you, Captain RO,” wrote MI in the caption of a special video they shared for Rohit Sharma over X (formerly Twitter).

Earlier on Friday, it was stated by Mumbai Indians in an Instagram post that this transition is a part of their plans for the future; apart from that, the franchise also extended their gratitude to the former skipper Rohit Sharma for leading the side to the glorious title wins in the history of the tournament.
“We express our gratitude to Rohit Sharma for his exceptional leadership; his tenure as the captain of the Mumbai Indians since 2013 has been nothing short of extraordinary. His leadership has not only brought unparalleled success to the team but has also solidified his place as one of the finest captains in the history of the IPL,” said the Global Head of Performance for MI, Mahela Jayawardene.
“Under his guidance, MI became one of the most successful and loved teams ever. We will look forward to his guidance and experience on and off the field to further strengthen MI,” he added later.
