Team India is gearing up and ticking all the boxes in preparation for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023, starting from Wednesday, 30th of August. The players are currently attending a training and fitness camp in Karnataka’s Alur. The players are also undergoing their Yo-Yo Tests for the fitness assessment ahead of the commencement of the tournament.

Meanwhile, the young opener Shubman Gill achieved the highest score in the Yo-Yo Test. He led the chart in the top position with a score of 18.7. The cut-off level of the test was 16.5, which was passed by all the Indian cricketers, including the former Indian skipper and batting superstar, Virat Kohli.

Apart from this, there are five Indian cricketers who have yet to take the Yo-Yo Test. The list includes Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson, and KL Rahul. Except for KL Rahul, the other four players were recently a part of the second-string team which played the three-match T20I series against Ireland. Star pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah was the stand-in skipper of Team India in the series against Ireland.

“The YoYo test being an aerobic endurance fitness test, the results could vary from when you last played and how much of workload you have gone through in the past week. Gill as of now has the highest score of 18.7. Most of the players have scored between 16.5 and 18,” said an Indian Cricket Board source to PTI.

“If the players have a gap between two tournaments, the National Cricket Academy's sports science team along with sports staff of India team does conduct all the mandatory tests,” the source added.

Notably, India will start their run in the Asia Cup 2023 with their campaign opener against the arch-rivals Pakistan on Saturday, the 2nd of September. Both teams will play this match at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. India had already announced their squad for the continental championship under the captaincy of regular skipper Rohit Sharma.
