Norway's only hope would be to get to the Euros 2024 through the play-off route and for that itself they need some results to start going in their favour.

Erling Haaland

Erling Haaland was unable to stop Spain from defeating Norway 1-0 on Sunday in Oslo, a game that Norway needed to win to keep its hopes of earning a guaranteed spot at Euro 2024 alive. Now, Norway must attempt to secure a place among the three open playoff positions, a task that is not entirely guaranteed.

Four minutes after halftime, FC Barcelona playmaker Gavi gave Spain the lead that they would need to end Martin Odegaard and Haaland's hopes of participating in their first continental  competition.

With their victory, La Roja earned a spot in the month-long, 24-team quadrennial competition. Germany will be holding the competition  in ten cities from mid-June to mid-July. The outcome on Sunday in the capital of Norway also guaranteed Scotland's participation in the championship match for the second time in a row.

The 5.5 million-person nation of Norway has only participated in the Euros once, in 2000. In that tournament, they were knocked out within the group stage itself. The Lions have taken part at three separate FIFA World Cups, with their greatest performance being in France in 1998, when they advanced to the round of 16.

Norway’s qualification scenario for Euros 2024

The Norwegian National football team would be hoping for a spot in the Euros 2024. But it's a task that looks easy but hard to get. Three teams would be eyeing for entry through the playoffs spot. Twelve teams that failed to qualify through the qualifying group stage might have another shot during the play-offs.

Four teams from the UEFA Nations League groups will be taken provided they have not already qualified for the competition. They would be drawn through the normal process to make a mini-competition. Four teams will compete for one spot and the eight other teams will do so similarly.

Norway has not qualified for the play-offs as of now since they need a Serbian victory to qualify for the play-offs. They would surely be one of the strongest teams to miss out on automatic qualification. However, if luck does not fall their way, it might be another big competition missed out by Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard.
