In a recent piece of news, star Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah became the world's number-one bowler across all three formats. He has also become the first Indian pacer to secure the number ranking in Test cricket. Last time, the highest ranking for an Indian pacer was number 2, which was achieved by the former legendary skipper Kapil Dev in 1979-80.
Now, he has surpassed his Indian teammate Ravichandran Ashwin to become the number 1 bowler in the traditional format of the game. Bumrah has achieved this milestone after his amazing and sensational bowling spell in the second Test of the five-match series against England in Vishakhapatnam.
He scalped 9 wickets at the cost of 91 runs in the entire second Test against the Three Lions. His amazing 6-fer in the first innings of the Vizag Test helped India to bundle out the visitors just at the score of 253 runs and secure a big lead of 143 runs at the end of the first innings.
Apart from this, Bumrah has also become the first bowler in history to become the number one among all formats on different occasions.
Kane Williamson continues as No.1 Test batter
In other rankings, the modern-day batting great and New Zealand skipper has maintained his number 1 rank in Test cricket, with two amazing centuries in both the innings of the first Test of the two-match series against South Africa.
Apart from that, the star Indian batting trio of Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma are placed consecutively in the second, third, and fourth spot of the ODI batters’ rankings.
Returning to Jasprit Bumrah, he has attracted a lot of eyeballs and huge praise across the cricketing fraternity from the former cricketers and the game experts. The headlines of some of the big newspapers in the English media were also centred only on Bumrah.
Here’s how fans reacted to Jasprit Bumrah becoming the No.1 Test bowler:
