Team India has made a huge leap forward in the 2023-25 World Test Championship (WTC) points table after an emphatic 106-run win over England in the second Test. The Men in Blue leveled the five-match series 1-1 in Visakhapatnam and reclaimed the second spot in the standings. This was India's third win in the ongoing third cycle with the previous two coming against West Indies and South Africa.

A setback in the opening Test in Hyderabad saw India slip from second to fifth place. However, their comeback has maintained a high level of competition, overtaking New Zealand, South Africa and Bangladesh in the points table. India now have 52.78% points from six matches, while three to five occupants have 50 points each.

Defending champions Australia is leading the chart with 55 % points. However, they might soon lose the spot as a match between New Zealand and South Africa is currently underway at Bay Oval. Runners-up India can also clinch the top spot if they perform well in the remaining matches of the ongoing series. Meanwhile, England remain in eighth place, their points percentage dropping from 29.17% to 25% after the Vizag defeat.

Indian bowlers silence 'bazball' noice in Visakhapatnam

England had to chase 399 and they started well with opener Zak Crawley continuing his fine form. Sitting comfortably at 95-1, they lost five wickets in the morning session on Day 4 (Monday), shifting the momentum in India's favor. Apart from Crawley's 73 off 132 balls, there were no significant contributions from the other England batters.

Speaking after the match, India captain Rohit Sharma said: "You know winning a Test in these conditions is not easy. Wanted our bowlers to step up and they did that. Wickets was really good to bat on. Very proud of such a young squad to come up against a team like that. Lot of the guys are quite young in terms of playing this form of the game. It'll take some time to be absolutely spot on. Want them to play freely without any pressure. Last couple of years England have been playing good cricket. Knew it wasn't going to be an easy series. Three more to go. We'll keep our check on it and make sure we do most things right."
