Former England skipper Kevin Pietersen didn’t look happy with the performance of young Indian batter Shubman Gill against England in the Hyderabad Test. Gill could score only 23 runs in the first innings and fell after a decent start, failing to convert it into a big knock for India.

Pietersen is in India as part of the commentary panel in the ongoing five-match Test series between India and England.

Meanwhile, Pietersen also revealed his interaction with India head coach Rahul Dravid after the former spoke critically of the young India number 3 batter Shubman Gill.

"It was nice to spend time with someone who helped me" - Kevin Pietersen about meeting Rahul Dravid

“We discussed batting in India again. Just reacquainting what the positive options are, and also you know, you sometimes get caught up in what the opposition is doing and you sometimes forget about how,” said Pietersen on Star Sports before the third day of the Hyderabad Test between India and England.

“In life, you have got to trust what you do, it was nice to spend time with someone who was so good and helped me in my career. Yesterday I was critical of Gill and I was praising KL Rahul and it's just about understanding players and their ability. It is always nice to speak to somebody of that stature and is doing so well for team India,” he added later.

Speaking of the action of the match, England defeated India in the Test series opener by a margin of 28 runs to gain a lead of 1-0 in the five-match series; star number 3 batter Ollie Pope smashed a brilliant century in the second innings followed by a seven-wicket haul scalped by debutant Tom Hartley while the visitors were defending the target in the fourth innings.

Now, India and England will take on each other in the upcoming second Test of the five-match series at the ACA-VDCA International Cricket Stadium in Vishakhapatnam, starting on February 2.
