On 15 November 2022, all franchises of the Indian T20 League submitted their list of all retained, released, and traded players. Ahead of the next season, all franchises have managed to develop a great side. However, some huge names got released by their respective franchises.
Players like Kane Williamson and Mayank Agarwal got released despite being the captain of their franchises last time. Now, all those released players will be available in the mini-auction. The auction will take place in Kochi on 23 December. Meanwhile, there are some players who might go big in that auction as some franchises will look to add them to their available squad.
Here are five released players who can cause a bidding war between franchises ahead of the Indian T20 League 2023:
1. Mayank Agarwal
This Indian batter can cause a bidding war between all the franchises in the upcoming mini-auction. He can be a vital option for any team as Mayank Agarwal can play in the opening slot. However, he was part of the Punjab franchise last year. In fact, he was the skipper of that franchise.
But, he failed to guide the team to glory as they finished in the sixth position with seven wins from 14 matches. In the Indian T20 League 2022, Agarwal scored 196 runs in 13 matches at an average of 16.33. He managed only one fifty throughout the season. So, such a poor form cost him a place in the Punjab squad ahead of the next season.
2. Jason Holder
This West-Indian all-rounder can be a vital option for any team in the next edition of the Indian T20 League. In the last season, Jason Holder represented the Lucknow franchise. In 12 matches, he scored only 58 runs at an average of 9.67. With the ball, Holder grabbed 14 wickets in 12 matches, at an economy of 9.42.
However, the player failed to showcase his ability at a consistent rate. Therefore, the franchise decided to release him ahead of the next season. But, his all-round abilities can make him an interesting option for any team. Jason Holder can bat at the top or middle order while can bowl in the death overs.
3. Nicholas Pooran
This West Indies skipper had a disastrous 20-20 World Cup 2022 campaign in Australia. He failed to guide his team in the Super-12 stage. Now, ahead of the next Indian T20 League 2023, the Hyderabad franchise released him. However, Nicholas Pooran had a decent season with the bat for the franchise.
In 14 matches, Pooran scored 306 runs at an average of 38.25. He managed also two fifties throughout the tournament. So, this batter can be a good option for any team going forward to the mini-auction. He can be a good addition with his six-hitting abilities while batting in the middle order.
4. Rassie van der Dussen
This South African batter can cause a bidding war between all the franchises in the upcoming mini-auction. This batter has already impressed global fans with his batting abilities. However, he missed the 20-20 World Cup 2022 campaign for South Africa due to an injury. In the last season, he represented the Rajasthan franchise.
In the Indian T20 League 2022, Rassie van der Dussen scored 22 runs in three matches, at an average of 11. So, he can be a vital option for any team in the auction. However, it will be a great opportunity for him also as he got very limited opportunities in Rajasthan colours. Rassie has already shown his class for the Proteas in the shortest format of the game.
5. Shivam Mavi
This uncapped Indian pacer can be a player to watch out for in the upcoming mini-auction for the Indian T20 League 2023. Shivam Mavi has represented the Kolkata franchise since 2018. Now, ahead of the next season, Kolkata released him. In the last season, Mavi took five wickets in six matches, at an economy of 10.32.
Therefore, at a cheap price, Shivam Mavi can be a good option for any team in the upcoming edition. His pace can be a vital addition to any team. Speaking about his recent form, in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ai Trophy, he took 10 wickets in seven matches for Uttar Pradesh.
