Indian T20 League 2023: Mumbai franchise’s possible playing XI

On 23 December 2022, the Mumbai franchise participated with other franchises in the mini-auction in Kochi. Already, they submitted their final list of retained and released players list to the Board on 15 December. However, they managed to add quality players like Cameron Green to their Squad.

They paid a whopping amount of INR 17.50 Crores to buy this star Aussie all-rounder. He became the second most expensive player in the history of the Indian T20 League. Apart from him, they also managed to buy Piyush Chawala for the upcoming season. Last season, they finished at the bottom (10th position) with eight points in 14 matches.   

Here is the possible playing XI for the Mumbai franchise in the Indian T20 League:

Top-order

Rohit Sharma will open the innings with Ishan Kishan for the Mumbai franchise in the Indian T20 League 2023. Followed by them, Suryakumar Yadav will bat at the number three position. Speaking of their records, Rohit Sharma has played 227 matches so far in this league and has scored 5879 runs, at an average of 30.30.

Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan has played 75 matches where he has scored 1870 runs, at an average of 29.22. In the last season, he scored 418 runs in 14 matches, at an average of 32.15. Suryakumar Yadav is currently the ranked-one batter in the T20I format. In the last season, he scored 303 runs in eight matches, at an average of 43.29 and a strike rate of 145.67.     

Middle-order and All-rounders

In the middle order, Tilak Verma, Cameron Green, Tim David, and Hrithik Shokeen will play for the franchise. Cameron Green became the second most expensive player in the history of the Indian T20 League. Tim David had a good season last time as he scored 186 runs in eight matches, at an average of 37.20 and a strike rate of 216.28.

Tilak also had an excellent season with 3977 runs in 14 matches, at an average of 36.09. Hrithik Shokeen had a decent last season. He took two wickets in five matches while managing 43 runs, at an average of 21.50. However, in this upcoming season, his off-spinning skill will be crucial for the franchise.            

Bowlers

Jasprit Bumrah, Jofra Archer, Piyush Chawla, and Jason Behrendorff will be the bowlers for the franchise. Jofra Archer missed the last edition of the Indian T20 League due to an injury. Now, he will be available for Mumbai in this upcoming season. Along with him, Jasprit Bumrah will be a deadly partner in the bowling department.

Veteran Piyush Chawla will be another great option for them to have. He is one of the most successful bowlers of all time in the Indian T20 League. So far, he has taken 157 wickets in 165 matches, at an economy of 7.88. Apart from them, Jason Behrendorff will be another top option for Rohit Sharma to have.
