India have made a winning start in the ongoing Asia Cup 2022. The Men in Blue defeated Pakistan by 5 wickets in their first match on Sunday. India are playing in the tournament without the services of their lead fast bowler in Jasprit Bumrah.

For the unversed, Bumrah was ruled out of the Asia Cup 2022 due to an injury prior to a few days of the start of the tournament. The Indian pacer is currently undergoing a rehabilitation process at National Cricket Academy in Bangalore.

Bumrah’s injury is a big concern for the team. Earlier, there were reports that it would take a lot of time for him to recover and the Indian fast bowler might miss the upcoming T20 World Cup as well due to that.  However, a member of the Indian Cricket Board has now confirmed that Bumrah will recover from injury soon and is likely to make his comeback in either the T20 series against Australia or against South Africa.

After the Asia Cup, India will be playing three T20 internationals against Australia from 20th to 25th September 2022.

“He has made good progress on his recovery. We are in constant touch with the physios. Nitin (Patel) is keeping a regular tab while he is away from NCA. We are hopeful that he will be coming back in Australia or South Africa series and definitely for T20 World Cup. But it’s still too early to say,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.

“Yes, it’s concerning. He is back in rehab and will get the best medical advice available. The problem is it’s his old injury and that is what is concerning. We have just two months left for the World Cup and he has got this injury at the worst possible time. We are closely monitoring his condition. He is the best bowler in cricket and needs to be carefully managed,” an official had told InsideSport.

Rohit Sharma and Co. are set to play the second match of the Asia Cup 2022 against Hong Kong on Wednesday.
