The ‘Jasprit Bumrah onslaught’ in the first ODI between India and England seems to have gone into the brains of the England team. Their captain Jos Buttler was apparently irritated by a question on the speedster’s tremendous ability after the first ODI. Bumrah was all over the England batting right from the word go as he made the white ball dance to his tunes.
During the Press Conference after the first ODI, England Captain Jos Buttler was reminded by a journalist about former English skipper Nasser Hussain asking on-air whether there are any betters bowlers than Bumrah across all formats. In response, Buttler also praised Bumrah and admitted facing the speedster in challenging.
“There’s no doubt that he’s a fantastic bowler. He’s been one of the leading bowlers in the world for a number of years now. And it looks like he’s going from strength to strength. That’s the great challenge of playing against India, you get to face these fantastic bowlers and batsmen. That’s why you want to play international cricket to challenge yourself against the best. No doubt he’s one of the best and we look forward to the challenge again on Thursday to try and get the better of him,” Buttler replied.
The reporter was not convinced with Buttler’s answer and once again asked whether Bumrah is the best or one of the best in the world. Irked by the reporter for persisting with the same question, the England captain replied “You decide.”
Bumrah gave the English batsmen a run for their money as he decimated their entire batting unit giving them no chance of recovery throughout their innings. The speedster registered his best ever bowling figures in his ODI career as he scalped six English batsmen giving away just 19 runs in 7.2 overs. His stupendous performance also saw him rise to the top of the bowler’s rankings for ODI cricket. Ever since his debut in the Indian T20 League in 2013, Bumrah was touted as the next big thing in world cricket. The fast has done justice to all those claims so far in his career.
