Sachin Tendulkar is one of the most appreciated legends of the game. Whenever a budding cricket meets him, they get awestruck. The same thing happened with Dewald Brevis, who was part of the Mumbai team in the Indian T20 League 2022. Brewis was already a star even as he showcased his talent in the U19 World Cup 2022 in the West Indies earlier this year.
The right-hander scored 506 runs and was the highest run-getter for South Africa in the Colts World Cup. The youngster, who listed himself in the player auction at a base price of 20 lakh INR, was picked by the five-time winners for INR 3 crore. The Pretoria-born scored 161 runs in seven games at an average of 23 and a strike rate of 142.48.
During the season, right before having a chat with Tendulkar, the teenage prodigy was laying on the floor in a gym. He revealed that he shook his hand with the 200-Test veteran and the experience was insane. The South African revealed that he idolized the 2011 World Cup winner and the details taught by the latter were special.
“I was laying on the floor of the gym and suddenly Sachin sir appeared at the door. I didn’t know what to do and the first time I shook his hand, it was insane. I have idolized him and the small technical details he taught me were special. It was great to learn from legends like him and coach Mahela,” said Brevis while speaking to the YouTube channel Cricket Fanatics.
While he was one of the brightest stars in the team, the Rohit Sharma-led side had their worst season in the history of the league. They had lost the first eight games and were kicked out of the playoffs race. This was the first time a team had lost this many games at the start of a season. Also, they finished last in the points table with only four wins in 14 games.
