In a shocking piece of news for Australia and Aussie cricket fans, star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out of the South Africa tour. He got ruled out of the squad due to the ankle injury, which he sustained recently. To replace Maxwell, Cricket Australia has called up wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Wade to be a part of the squad.
Notably, the South Africa tour of Australia will start with the first T20I on Wednesday, 30th of August at the Kingsmead in Durban. The Aussies, under the captaincy of star all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, will play three ODIs and five ODIs against South Africa before travelling to India for a three-match ODI series followed by the ODI World Cup 2023.
Notably, Maxwell’s exclusion from the squad has been the fourth consecutive blow for the Aussies in the last couple of days. Prior to him, the skipper Pat Cummins was also ruled out of the series, alongside the former skipper Steve Smith and the veteran pacer Mitchell Starc.
"We are taking a precautionary approach, given Glenn was heading home next week in any case. We will monitor Glenn's recovery with a view to him being available for the three-match ODI series in India in advance of the World Cup," said Australian selector Tony Dodemaide.
