Quetta Gladiators continued their winning run in the ongoing Pakistan Super League 2024 with a 3-wicket win over Islamabad United in the 8th match of the tournament. Both teams played this match at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Thursday. The Gladiators’ skipper Rilee Rossouw won the toss and asked Islamabad United to bat first.

The Quetta bowlers lived up to the expectations of their skipper who decided to bowl first as they restricted Islamabad to a below-par total of 138 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. young spinner Abrar Ahmed and pacer Mohammad Wasim scalped 3 wickets each for the Gladiators. Besides these, Mohammad Hasnain and Akeal Hosein also picked one and two wickets, respectively for their side.

It was only Agha Salman for the United who showed some fight against Quetta bowlers and scored 33 runs off 23 balls, with 5 fours.

Quetta held the nerves in a 'small but tough' run-chase

While chasing the target, the veteran opener Jason Roy smashed 37 runs off just 18 balls, with 6 fours and a six on his credit. Other than him, it was skipper Rilee Rossouw’s unbeaten and well-fought knock of 34 runs off 38 balls, with 3 fours. He stayed till the end to ensure his team crossed the line and ended up winning the match.

However, the quick cameo of 11 runs off just 6 balls from the lower-order batter Mohammad Amir, with 2 fours also played a crucial part in helping the Gladiators win this match by a narrow margin of 3 wickets, scoring 139 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 18.2 overs.

The Quetta Gladiators’ skipper Rilee Rossouw won the ‘Player of the Match award for his brilliant match-defining and decisive knock in his side’s favour.
