Know the reason for fans calling Babar Azam as 'Zimbabar'
Babar Azam, who emerged as a promising batsman for Pakistan since his debut in 2015, was once hailed as a potential successor to Virat Kohli on the global cricketing stage. However, in recent years, he has faced criticism for underperforming in crucial matches for Pakistan while excelling in less challenging or inconsequential games.
Over his career, Babar has played 18 matches across all formats against Zimbabwe, accumulating 693 runs at an impressive average of 57.75. The popular chant "Zimbabar" reflects the belief that Babar might find his form by playing against Zimbabwe and could regain his scoring touch.
In 2023, Babar Azam faced a tumultuous period across various formats of cricket. While leading the Pakistan side, he witnessed disappointing performances in both the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup, resulting in his removal as captain across all formats. Following the conclusion of the ODI World Cup, Babar struggled to make a significant impact during the Australia Test series. However, he showcased his prowess with the bat in the 5-match T20I series against New Zealand, held away from home.
