Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan has acquired a team in the new UAE T20 League. The Abu Dhabi-based franchise will have the same branding as all other teams under his group. Shah Rukh Khan owns the Kolkata team in the Indian T20 League and the Trinbago-based team in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). He also intends to set up a Los Angeles based team in the Major League Cricket (MLC) in the USA.
In his remark, the actor stated that they have been closely monitoring the potential of T20 Cricket in the UAE. He believes that the tournament will be a huge success. "For several years now, we have been expanding the Knight Riders brand globally and closely watching the potential for T20 cricket in the UAE. We are excited about becoming part of UAE’s T20 League, which no doubt will become hugely successful," the team's website quoted Shah Rukh Khan saying.

UAE T20 League's chairman, Khalid Al Zarooni, believes that the association will largely benefit the League's reputation. "The commitment to grow the T20 format and the expertise gathered by the Knight Riders Group, through their involvement in franchise cricket across the world, is undisputed. We are exceptionally pleased with their foresight to join forces with the UAE’s T20 League and firmly believe it will elevate the reputation, and professionalism of the League throughout the cricket community," he said.
The UAE T20 League is an annual tournament sanctioned by the Emirates Cricket Board. It will include six teams participating in a 34-match event likely including prominent cricket players from across the world. Adani Sportsline, a part of the diversified Adani Group, has also reportedly acquired a team in the tournament.
As for the Kolkata-based franchise, they have currently won five out of their 12 games in the ongoing Indian T20 League 2022. Despite the odds being stacked against them, they are still in the race to make it to the playoffs. It will be exciting to see how they perform in their upcoming games of this edition.
