India faced off against New Zealand in the second ODI played on January 21, Saturday and it was the Men in Blue who won the game on the day by 8 wickets, chasing a meagre target of 109, on the back of a fifty from skipper Rohit Sharma. As far as bowling is concerned, it was Mohammed Shami who starred with the ball with his three-for and restrict the Black Caps to a meagre total.

Shubman Gill, on the other hand, remained unbeaten at 40 and proved his prowess once again. The right-handed batter is fast becoming India’s all-format cricketer and to add more, he is only of the very few players to play across formats at present. Opening up on the same, former Pakistani cricketer Ramiz Raja said that Gill is like a mini Rohit Sharma and lauded the youngster for his continued form in the 50-over format.

India would look to carry on with their form in the final contest of the series as well, although fans claim that the Black Caps would be able to make a comeback and win the final ODI, preventing the Indian men from clinching off a whitewash. For the unversed, the Men in Blue managed to whitewash Sri Lanka in the ODI series which ended prior to the series against Tom Latham and his men.

Chasing is easy because India have Rohit Sharma: Ramiz Raja

The former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief said further that the Indian team were able to chase down the target because of Rohit and claimed that the batter could do wonders with the bat because of his ability to time the ball to the fullest of his capability.

“Shubman Gill looks like a mini-Rohit Sharma. He has extra time and looks good. He has enough potential. Aggression will also develop with time. He doesn’t need to change anything. He scored a double hundred recently,” Raja was quoted as saying on his YouTube channel.

“Batting was easy for India because they have an outstanding batter like Rohit Sharma. He plays exceedingly well. He is an amazing striker of hook-and-pull shots, so a 108-run chase becomes easy,” said the former PCB chief further.
