As India seeks redemption after a disappointing performance in the first Test at Centurion, the Indian Cricket Board announces a replacement for injured Mohammed Shami. In the first game, India succumbed to a defeat by an innings and 32 runs. Young pacer Avesh Khan has been added to the squad as a replacement for Mohammed Shami, who failed to recover from an ankle injury.
In a statement, the Indian Cricket Board revealed that the Men's Selection Committee has entrusted Avesh Khan with the responsibility. Recognising his prowess as a promising pace bowler, the team has called him to join the squad. The Test squad, led by Rohit Sharma, includes a mix of experienced campaigners and young talents.
It’s worth noting that the second game of the series will be played at Newlands in Cape Town on January 3rd. India will look to win the game to level the series and avoid a humiliating defeat. In the first game, the team lacked at both fronts, especially in batting. Apart from KL Rahul and Virat Kohli, not a single batter was impressed with their performances.
India slips down in the WTC points table
Following the setback against South Africa, India has relinquished its position at the summit of the World Test Championship (WTC) table. With a win percentage (PCT) of 44.44, India now stands in the 5th spot, trailing behind arch-rivals Pakistan, who hold the 2nd position with a PCT of 61.11.
South Africa's dominant performance has propelled them to the top of the table with a perfect 100 PCT. The defeat has not only impacted India's ranking but has intensified the competition in the WTC, underscoring the unpredictability of Test cricket and setting the stage for a challenging climb back to the pinnacle for the Indian cricket team.
India’s squad for the 2nd Test: Rohit Sharma (C), Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Mohd. Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah (VC), Prasidh Krishna, KS Bharat (wk), Abhimanyu Easwaran, and Avesh Khan
Here is how fans react to Avesh Khan’s inclusion:
Wow what an inclusion to Indian test team. Selectors selected the person who game is to give free runs to batters. He gets wickets but concedes a lot of runs. Arshdeep would have been a better option here

If Shami and Bumrah are not together in a test match then watching the match is not fun.
