In a recent piece of news, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma denied all the previous speculations about his career in T20I cricket. Notably, Rohit, alongside former skipper Virat Kohli, has not been a part of the Indian T20I squad since the T20 World Cup 2022. It led to a lot of speculation among the fans. Some Indian cricket fans assume that the Indian management might omit Virat and Rohit from the T20I template altogether.
But amidst all this, Rohit himself cleared the air over his appearance in the shortest format of the game. He said that he is looking forwards to the T20I World Cup 2024, which is to be jointly hosted by the USA and West Indies.
I’m really looking forward to it - Rohit Sharma on his appearance in T20 World Cup 2024
“In June, A World Cup is taking place here (USA) and I’m really looking forward to it,” said Rohit Sharma on the sidelines of the launch event of his cricket academy in the USA.
Rohit was recently seen during the Test series and the ODI series against West Indies. However, Rohit was rested in the second and third ODI after he played in the first ODI for India, lower in the batting order. Earlier in the Test series, he was in good form with the bat as he scored a century and two half-centuries in the three innings of the two matches.
Now, the star all-rounder Hardik Pandya is leading team India in the ongoing five-match T20I series against West Indies as Rohit and Kohli have been rested for one more time from a T20I series.
Coming back to Rohit’s statement on his possibilities for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, it drew a lot of reactions on social media. Some cricket fans took to Twitter and responded with contrasting opinions; meanwhile, some of the fans also mentioned the defeat of India in the first T20I against the West Indies.
Here’s how fans reacted to Rohit Sharma’s statement:
