The Indian squad for the five-match T20 series against South Africa, starting on the 9th of June has been announced. KL Rahul will be leading the team, with Rishabh Pant set to serve as his deputy. In the absence of some of the senior players, a few young faces got their maiden international call-ups, while many other deserving players could not make it to the team. Here are some of the players that were unlucky to miss out on the T20I squad for the series against South Africa.
Rahul Tripathi
Rahul Tripathi, in the Indian T20 League 2021, has been very impressive. He has played very well for the Hyderabad in the middle-order It was expected that he would be given a chance to represent India in the South Africa series. In the 13 matches he has played this season, the batter has scored 393 runs at a strike rate of 161.73. The 31-year old has shown a lot of aggressively intent throughout the season, and got Hyderabad across the line on a few occasions as well.
Sanju Samson
The Rajasthan team captain in the Indian T20 League 2022, Sanju Samson, has had many ups and downs in his international career. He has never been a constant in the side, and often finds himself out of the team. However, he has been decent in the ongoing Indian T20 League and has successfully guided his team to the first Qualifier in the playoffs. In the 2022 season, he has scored 374 runs in 14 matches at a decent strike rate of 147.
Shikhar Dhawan
In Rohit Sharma's absence, Shikhar Dhawan was expected to lead the team. Despite being in decent form, he was not selected for the team. Playing for the Punjab-based franchise in the Indian T20 League 2022, he was one of the most consistent players for the team. In 13 games, he scored 421 runs at an average of 38.27. His strike rate of 122.74, however, was not the best. Throughout the season, Dhawan made significant contributions for the 2014-finalists.
