Team India are currently preparing to face Bangladesh in the second and last Test match in Bangladesh. It will be the last match for them in this calendar year. However, they have played many matches across all three formats throughout these years. Apart from these, they also played in two major tournaments.
India played the Asia Cup in Dubai and the 20-20 World Cup in Australia. The Men in Blue won many bilateral series. But, some results did not go in their favor and those were some heart-breaking moments for the players and fans also.
Here are the top three heart-breaking moments for team India in 2022:
Losing the 5th Test against England in Birmingham
The last and fifth rescheduled Test match between England and India took place on 1 July in Birmingham. However, Rohit Sharma missed that clash after getting infected by the Covid-19 virus. Therefore, Jasprit Bumrah was the captain of that match. Team India went to that match with a 2-1 lead in the series.
So, it was a great opportunity for the Men in Blue to win the series by avoiding a loss. Speaking of the match, team India set a mammoth target of 378 runs for England to win the clash. But, they batted brilliantly and managed to pull off that record chase with ease. Thus, the series ended at 2-2 and India’s dream got shattered of winning the series on English soil.
Asia Cup exit
Team India went to that tournament as one of the favorites. Before the 20-20 World Cup, it was a great platform for them to get prepared. In the group stage, the Men in Blue finished top of the table with four points in two matches. But, in the Super Four stage, they suffered two consecutive losses before winning against Afghanistan.
The Men in Blue went to that tournament as the defending champions. Pakistan defeated India by five wickets. While Sri Lanka also defeated India by six wickets. It was a heartbreaking moment for both the team and the fans. No one expected such a dismal performance from Rohit Sharma and his men.
20-20 World Cup Semi-final exit
All fans were expecting team India to win the 20-20 World Cup this time around. However, they started the tournament in top form by topping the group with eight points in five games. Then, in the second semi-final, the Men in Blue took on England in Adelaide on 10 November 2022. England won the toss and asked India to bat first.
While batting first, Rohit Sharma and his men scored 168 runs for six wickets in 20 overs. Hardik Pandya scored 63 runs off 33 balls. In reply, England scored 170 runs in 16 overs without losing any wickets. So, it was a heartbreaking moment for team India’s fans as they failed again to win that title after 2007.
