The four-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) thrashed Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 67th match of the Indian Premier League 2023 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday, May 20, and have qualified in the IPL playoffs for the 12th time in the history of the cash-rich league which is most by any team.

Meanwhile, during the 2nd innings, when DC was chasing a humongous target of 223 runs, a funny incident took place which left everyone in splits. Deepak Chahar was bowling the 5th over of the 2nd innings and DC skipper David Warner took a risky single, however, he didn’t look satisfied and started teasing Ajinkya Rahane, who collected the throw from Moeen Ali, for a double. Rahane threw the ball and it was now Ravindra Jadeja, who collected it and threatened to target the stumps, but Warner had a more savage reply as he started mimicking Jadeja’s iconic ‘Sword celebration’.

Talking about the match, CSK won the toss and opted to bat first, their openers made their intentions clear from the very first over and exploded into action. With the kind of start Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad gave, CSK was undoubtedly going to reach a high total, but it seemed like they got at least 40 more than DC would have liked. Prior to Gaikwad's dismissal for 79 in the 15th over, the right-hand-left-hand combination stitched a 141-run partnership at the top.

When the New Zealand batter was joined by power hitter Shivam Dube, the shower of boundaries in Delhi intensified. Conway appeared to be on his way to his first IPL century before getting bowled for 87, while Dube scored an astonishing 22 runs in 9 balls and helped the team to achieve a monumental total of 223 runs.

Chasing 224, DC skipper David Warner led from the front but didn't find much support from his teammates as Delhi could only manage 146/9 in 20 overs. Warner scored 86(58), while none of the other batters could breach the 20-run mark, with Axar Patel's 15(8) being the second-highest from the DC camp. Deepak Chahar scalped three wickets, while Sri Lankan duo Maheesh Theekshana and Matheesha Pathirana scalped two wickets each. Ravindra Jadeja and Tushar Deshpande also picked one wicket each.
