The exhilarating action continued in Big Bash League 2022-23 as Sydney Sixers and Sydney Thunder got head-to-head against each other. Sixers’ captain Moises Henriques won the toss and invited Thunders to bat first. Amid the scintillating batting and bowling performances, a stunning catch by Ben Cutting turned out to be the highlight of the match.
The incident took place on the third ball of the second over of the second innings bowled by Brendan Doggett. James Vince charged down the track and threw his bat at a wide delivery which took the edge and went flying towards the third man. Ben Cutting came who was a bit finer, covered some ground and launched himself in the air to complete a spectacular catch.

Coming back to the match, Thunders’ openers Matthew Gikes and Alex Hales failed to give a blazing start to their side. Hales was dismissed for a golden duck by Sean Abbott. Gikes also failed to get going as he scored just 7 off 12 by Todd Murphy. Thunder further lost their third wicket on the score of 12 as Olivier Davies also departed for a golden duck.
Sam Whiteman and Alex Ross stabilised the innings with a 64-run stand for the fourth wicket. However, their partnership couldn’t continue for long as Whiteman departed after scoring 42 off 34 balls while Ross scored a run-a-ball 34.
Moises Henriques played a captain's knock to take his team to victory
A brilliant cameo by Ben Cutting of 26 off 15 balls took Thunder to 133/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Sean Abbott was the pick of the bowlers for Thunder who picked up 3/9 in 4 overs while Ben Dwarshuis picked up 2/28 in 4 overs.
In reply to Thunders’ total, Sixers also got off to a miserable start as they were reeling at 25/3 after 4 overs. However, captain Moises Henriques and Jordan Silk were involved in a match-winning 109-run stand for the fourth wicket to take their side to a comfortable victory in 16.2 overs.
Henriques remained unbeaten on 53 off 38 while Silk remained unbeaten on 59 off 42. As a result, Sixers won the match by 7 wickets.
Sean Abbott was awarded ‘Player of the Match’ for his spectacular bowling performance.
