Despite losing against India and Zimbabwe, Pakistan have kept their hopes alive to reach the knockout stage of the 20-20 World Cup 2022. Babar Azam and Co. registered a 33-run win over South Africa on Thursday to claim their second win of the tournament.
Babar Azam and M Rizwan, once again, failed to deliver with the bat and left Pakistan tottering at 43 for 4 inside the first six overs. However, Iftikhar Ahmed, yet again, played a stellar knock of 51 runs in 35 balls to help Pakistan come back into the game.
He added 52 runs with M Nawaz (28) for the 5th wicket and then stitched an 82-run partnership with Shadab Khan to lift Pakistan to a formidable score of 185 runs. Pakistan’s vice-captain, Shadab Khan also starred with the bat as he smashed 52 runs in just 22 balls, providing just the kind of momentum the team needed.
Shaheen Shah Afridi also returned to form as he picked two big wickets of Quinton de Kock and R Rossouw in his very first over. However, Temba Bavuma exhibited a fine display of batting in the power play and raced to 36 runs in just 18 deliveries. South Africa were cruising at 65 for 2 after 7 overs.
The arrival of Shadab Khan, however, changed things pretty quickly. He first had Bavuma caught behind on the very first ball of his spell and then rattled the stumps of Markram on his third delivery. The heavens opened up, thereafter, and South Africa were given a revised target of 142 runs in 14 overs.
The absence of David Miller hurt them badly as T Stubbs (18) and Klaasen (15) failed to guide the team home. Pakistan, in the end, won the match by 33 runs.
Meanwhile, a video has been doing the rounds on social media involving Pakistan cricketer Kamran Akmal. During a live show, Pakistan’s television actress, Amar Khan took a sly dig at Kamran Akmal by shedding light on his playing days for the Pakistan Cricket Team. In the video, she explained how she would pray to god whenever the ball reaches out to him for a catch.
