Team India are going to play a three-match ODI series in Bangladesh, starting on 4 December 2022. Followed by that, they will play a two-match Test series also. Speaking of the Men in Blue, they are coming off after a tour of New Zealand.
India won the T20I series but lost the ODI series without their experienced and senior players. Now, all of them will be available in this series. However, Bangladesh and India have always enjoyed playing each other in this format. Several controversial incidents have occurred in those matches which made fans crazy.
Here are the top five controversial moments between India and Bangladesh in the ODI format:
1. No-ball incident in the 2015 World Cup
In the 2015 50-over World Cup, India took on Bangladesh in the second quarter-final. India won the toss and chose to bat first. The Men in Blue scored 302 runs for six wickets in 50 overs. In reply, Bangladesh got bundled out for 193 runs in 45 overs. But, a controversial incident occurred during India’s innings.
During the 40th over, Rubel Hossain was bowling while Rohit Sharma was batting. The Bangladesh pacer bowled a waist-high full-toss, Rohit Sharma pulled, and the fielder at deep square leg took the catch. However, the umpires signaled it a no-ball. But, replays showed that it was a very marginal call. Rohit Sharma went on to score 137 runs and won the player of the match award also.
2. Virat Kohli and Ruben Hossain’s heated exchange in World Cup, 2011 and 2015
These players share a brief history between them since their Under-19 days. In the 2011 World Cup, Virat Kohli had a heated discussion with Rubel. Then, in the 215 World Cup, Rubel celebrated Kohli’s wicket by giving a send-off. However, in both encounters, India won comfortably against Bangladesh.
During a Facebook Live session with teammates Tamim Iqbal and Taskin Ahmed, Hossain also acknowledged that rivalry. He said: “I have played against Virat Kohli since our U-19 days. So I have had things going on with him from our U-19 days. During the U-19 days, he used to sledge a lot. Now it may not be that much.”
3. Morphed image of Indian players, 2015
In 2015, India went to Bangladesh for a one-match Test series and a three-match ODI series. First, the Test match ended as a draw. However, fans were hoping for a better show from India in the ODI series. But, Bangladesh surprised everyone by winning the series 2-1. Mustafizur Rahman was the star for them as he was the highest wicket-taker.
He took 13 wickets in three matches with an average of 11.54. However, after that series win, a morphed image of Mustafizur Rahman went viral where he was seen as a barber. While Indian players were seen with half-shaved heads. Indian fans were not happy at all after seeing such behavior from Bangladeshi fans.
4. MS Dhoni and Mustafizure Rahman Controversy, 2016
During the first match of that ODI series, MS Dhoni and Mustafizur Rahman were seen engaging in a controversial incident. During that match, MS Dhoni elbowed him in the follow-through to push him out of the way. Things also became worse as umpires came to intervene. However, as a result, the Governing Body of Cricket fined both players.
They issued an official statement that reads: “Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman and India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni have been fined 50 and 75% of their match fees respectively after being found guilty of breaching the Governing Board of Cricket Code of Conduct during the first ODI in Mirpur on Thursday.”
5. Litton Das’s controversial stumping in the 2018 Asia Cup
This incident took place in the final of the 2018 Asia Cup. India won the toss and asked Bangladesh to bat first. Litton Das scored 121 runs off 117 balls while opening the innings. But, he lost his wickets in a controversial stumping decision. He failed to play a googly before MS Dhoni took the bails off in a flash after Liiton missed the ball completely.
The Indian fielders appealed for it and the third umpire was called to make the final call. Replays showed that it was a tight call. However, the decision ended in favor of team India only. Speaking of the match, India won the match by five wickets and bagged another Asia Cup in their history.
