Breaking! Indian Cricket Board announces squad for three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, makes major changes

Team India under the captaincy of regular skipper Rohit Sharma will be taking on Afghanistan in a three-match T20I series, starting with the first T20I on January 11, 2024.

In a recent piece of news, the Indian Cricket Board’s senior men’s selection committee announced the squad of Team India for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan. The series will commence on Thursday, January 11, 2024, later, with the first T20I to be played at the PCA IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali.

One of the big updates for the Indian cricket fans from the recently announced squad is that the regular skipper Rohit Sharma has been back to lead the men in blue in the shortest format of the game. Besides Rohit, the former skipper and the modern-day batting great, Virat Kohli has also been included in the squad for the three-match series against Afghanistan.

Jitesh Sharma and Sanju Samson have been added as the two wicketkeeping options. While Washington Sundar and Axar Patel will be there in the roles of spin-bowling all-rounders. Speaking of the batting attack of the hosts, the selectors have named the youngsters, including the likes of Shubman Gill, Tilak Varma, Rinku Sing, Yashasvi Jaiswal, alongside skipper Rohit Sharma and former skipper Virat Kohli.

Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan, and Mukesh Kumar will be the three pacers in the squad, alongside Ravi Bishnoi and Kuldeep Yadav as the two specialist spinners in the bowling attack.

Rohit and Virat will be playing together in T20I cricket after a long time since their last appearance in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022 against England. Since then, Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav led the team as stand-in skippers on different occasions across various bilateral assignments in the shortest format of the game.

With calling Virat and Rohit back in the T20I squad, the Indian Cricket Board has also hinted about their preparations for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 later this year.
