Jonathan Trott to continue as Afghanistan coach in 2024

Following a successful World Cup campaign in 2023, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has decided to extend the contract of head coach Jonathan Trott. The former English star has been in charge of coaching duties for the past 18 months, overseeing several notable performances by the team. Afghanistan, once considered minnows, achieved victories against England, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the Netherlands, and even came close to beating Australia.

Under Trott's guidance, Afghanistan's Cricket Team made remarkable strides, achieving unprecedented success in 2023. Their standout performance in the ODI World Cup saw them secure victories against cricket powerhouses such as Pakistan, England, Sri Lanka, and the Netherlands. Although they narrowly missed a win against the eventual champions Australia, Afghanistan's spirited campaign left a lasting impression. Since he was appointed head coach in July 2022, Trott has played a pivotal role in Afghanistan's success He has overseen eight wins in 23 ODIs and 11 wins in 26 T20Is.
