India batter Shreyas Iyer was opted out of the third Test match against England due to back injuries. In the first two Test matches against England, he was able to score only 104 runs. After the second Test match, he stated to the Indian Cricket Board that he was facing problems in his back while doing forward defence while batting.
The Indian Cricket Board send Shreyas Iyer to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) Bengaluru for further treatment. For the last 12 months, Shreyas Iyer has been facing back spasms. Shreyas Iyer missed IPL 2023 and the WTC final as he underwent surgery on his back in last March. He made a comeback in the Asia Cup for India he also played 2023 ODI World Cup.
Ahead of the fourth Test between India and England Nitin Patel who is head of sports science and medical at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) stated that Shreyas Iyer is fit and fine and has no new injury.
Indian Cricket Board has given an ultimatum to players to play Ranji Trophy matches
National Cricket Academy (NCA) declared Shreyas Iyer fit as they sent an Email to the Indian Cricket Board on his situation. As per reports, he faked his injury to miss the quarter-final of the Ranji Trophy match against Baroda. Meanwhile, the Indian Cricket Board has given an ultimatum to players to play Ranji Trophy matches ahead of IPL 2024. As Ishan Kishan skipped Ranji Trophy matches for IPL. He was seen training personally with Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya. Deepak Chahar also missed Ranji Trophy matches for Rajasthan.
Meanwhile for India in a third Test match against England, Rajkot Sarfaraz Khan made his debut to fill the place of Shreyas Iyer. He showed his batting ability as India won the Test match by 434 runs marking this as the biggest win by runs in Test cricket of India. For the fourth test in Ranchi KL Rahul is ruled out and Jasprit Bumrah is likely to be rested which has given rise to Indian team problems for the playing XI. The fourth Test match will start on 23rd February in JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi.
