The second Test between India and South Africa saw a great gesture of sportsmanship from legendary Indian player Virat Kohli. During the second Test at Cape Town on January 3, Indian cricket sensation Virat Kohli approached South African opener Dean Elgar and embraced him following Elgar's dismissal in his last Test innings.

On a day characterized by bowlers taking control, Elgar, in his second batting stint, seemed poised for yet another of his characteristic resilient innings. Nonetheless, he prodded at a short-of-a-length delivery from Mukesh Kumar, resulting in a catch by Kohli at first slip. Despite the significant wicket at a crucial juncture of the game, Kohli encouraged the crowd to show respect to the South African captain and rushed to embrace him. Over the years, the two have engaged in on-field banter, making Kohli's gesture of recognizing Elgar's remarkable career particularly touching.

Additionally, Elgar experienced a forgettable farewell on a tumultuous day in Cape Town. The 36-year-old left-hander managed only four runs in the first innings and added 12 in his ultimate batting appearance during South Africa's second innings. In the initial Test at Centurion, Elgar who was also named Player of the Match, played a pivotal role with a superb innings of 185, contributing to the Proteas taking a 1-0 series lead. Concluding his Test career, Elgar accumulated 5,347 runs in 86 matches at an average of 37.92, featuring 14 centuries.

India on top after Day 1 play in Capetown Test

After a remarkable innings victory in the first Test of the two-match series, South Africa won the toss and chose to bat first on a picturesque day in Cape Town. Despite the favourable conditions, the pitch proved to be quite challenging for the batters, with Mohammed Siraj wreaking havoc on the South African batting lineup. The pacer delivered an exceptional performance, claiming 6 wickets for just 15 runs in nine overs, leading to the hosts being dismissed for their lowest Test score since readmission, a mere 55 runs.

In pursuit of South Africa's score, India smoothly reached 105/2 before experiencing a minor setback, finding themselves at 110/4. However, at 153/4, the visitors seemed poised for a substantial lead before encountering an unexpected collapse. India lost their last six wickets without adding a single run, getting dismissed for 153 in their initial innings. buoyed by the remarkable comeback, the Proteas made a strong start at 37/0. However, they suffered the loss of three wickets swiftly, concluding day one at 62/3 in 17 overs, trailing India by 36 runs.
