Former Indian skipper and the modern-day batting great, Virat Kohli didn’t miss a chance to give a sarcastic reminder to South Africa skipper Dean Elgar in the latter’s last Test in his career. The incident took place in the ongoing second Test of the two-match series between South Africa and India at the Newlands in Cape Town.
It all happened when South Africa made a big LBW appeal against Virat Kohli on the second ball of the 24th over, which was being bowled by Marco Jansen. The appeal was firstly denied by the field umpire but the Proteas went on to review it; however, they couldn’t get it in their favour as Kohli was given ‘not out’ as per the umpire’s call.
Just after the third umpire’s decision, Dean Elgar came to Kohli and said, “Oh, you’ve survived a close one,”. The Indian batting stalwart didn’t hold it back and spontaneously replied to Elgar saying, “This was way higher than what Ravi Ashwin bowled to you,” referring to the infamous LBW survival of Dean Elgar in 2021 during the Cape Town Test. Eventually, both Dean Elgar and Virat Kohli ended up laughing together remembering the incident.
Here’s the video of Virat Kohli replying to Dean Elgar:

The video of this sarcastic and hilarious moment is also making rounds on social media as soon as it was shared by a user over X (formerly Twitter). Notably, the incident Virat Kohli referred to was of the third and last Test of the three-match Test series between South Africa and India in 2021 at the same ground of Newlands in Cape Town.
Ravichandran Ashwin was bowling to Dean Elgar in the 21st over of the second innings when the hosts were chasing the target of 212 runs. Ashwin successfully trapped the Proteas skipper in front of the wickets in an LBW and the umpire declared it out following an appeal from the Indian players but the decision from the third umpire left the Indian players fumed and field umpire Marais Erasmus shocked as it was overturned from ‘out’ to ‘not-out’.
