'A clinical run-chase' - Fans react as UP Warriorz Women register second successive win in WPL 2024 defeating Gujarat Giants by 6 wickets

Gujarat Giants Women and UP Warriorz Women locked horns in the 8th match of the ongoing Women’s Premier League 2024, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. UP Warriorz Alyssa Healy won the toss and asked Gujarat Giants Women to bat first. Batting first, the Giants managed to post an average total of 142 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Phoebe Litchfield and Ashleigh Gardner played the important knocks of 35 and 30 runs, respectively followed by opener Laura Wolvaardt’s 28 runs off 26 balls, with 4 fours. Young left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone scalped 3 wickets just at the cost of 20 runs in her quota of 4 overs. Besides her, Rajeshwar Gaikwad also picked one wicket for UP Warriorz Women.

Harris leads UP's run-chase with a 'Grace' 

While chasing the target, UP skipper Alyssa Healy and her opening partner Kiran Navgire stitched a quick partnership of 42 runs for the first wicket in just 4.3 overs. Healy scored 33 runs off just 21 balls, with 7 fours, aggregating a strike rate of 168.144.

Later, the star middle order batter Grace Harris also played an amazing unbeaten and match-defining knock of 60 runs off just 33 balls, with 9 fours and 2 sixes. Her knock helped UP Warriorz Women to chase down the total in just 15.4 overs, scoring 143 runs for the loss of four wickets and winning the match by 4 wickets to register their second consecutive win in the tournament.

Tanuja Kanwar scalped 2 wickets for Gujarat Giants Women, alongside one wicket each bagged by Meghna Singh and Kathryn Bryce.
