Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan have taken the spotlight as they were removed from the Indian Cricket Board annual contract list. The wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan was the last part of the India squad when India went to South Africa. He left the team reasoning mental fatigue. Since then, he has not been part of the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan. He made himself unavailable for the five-match Test series against England.

Instead of playing Ranji Trophy games for his state team, he was seen doing training with Mumbai Indians' new captain Hardik Pandya ahead of IPL 2024. Even though Indian Cricket Board secretary Jay Saha warned players who are not playing domestic games will face problems in future. Ishan Kishan ignored this and didn’t show up for any matches for his state team.

"Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were not considered for the annual contracts in this round of recommendations," the Indian Cricket Board said in its release while announcing the Annual Player Contracts for Team India (Senior Men) for the 2023-24 season (October 1st, 2023 to September 30th, 2024).

Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer who was part of the Test squad for India against England dropped out for the last three Test matches against England. Shreyas Iyer who could manage to score only 106 runs in the first two Test matches against England informed that he had back spasms while batting in the second Test match. He was sent to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for medical treatment.

Ahead of the third Test match, NCA mailed Shreyas Iyer was fit to play and had no fresh injuries. As per reports, he faked his injury to miss Ranji Trophy matches for Mumbai. During this time Shreyas Iyer was seen attending Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) training camp. However, it seems like players are more interested in playing IPL matches rather than domestic cricket. When Indian Cricket Board chief selector Ajit Agarkar learned this he was left furious.

For Mumbai’s semi-final match against Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy Shreyas Iyer was added to the squad as Ajinkya Rahane was thrilled to see Shreyas Iyer back in the team which boosted the confidence of the squad.
