India completely dominated on the second day of the ongoing first Test of the five-match series against England. The hosts resumed their batting from the first day’s score of 119 runs for the loss of one wicket. However, first day’s star Yashasvi Jaiswal fell prey to the former England skipper Joe Root and went back to the pavilion early in the first session of the second day.

Subsequently, Shubman Gill also got dismissed just at the individual score of 23 runs. But then came a brilliant 86-run knock scored by the senior batter KL Rahul. Notably, KL Rahul is filling the number four batting spot in India’s playing XI in the absence of the former skipper and the modern-day batting great, Virat Kohli.

KL Rahul also stitched a crucial partnership of 64 runs for the fourth wicket with Shreyas Iyer (35 runs off 63 balls, with 3 fours and a six). Following Iyer’s dismissal off Rehan Ahmed, star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja made it to the centre to take the charge alongside KL Rahul, the duo added an important 66-run stand for the fifth wicket to provide a lead to India before KL Rahul was caught by Rehan Ahmed of debutant Tom Hartley.

Furthermore, on the day for India, Ravindra Jadeja and wicketkeeper-batter Srikar Bharat stitched a partnership of 68 runs for the sixth wicket to increase India’s lead. Bharat scored 41 runs off 81 balls, with 3 fours to support Jadeja.

Later around the end of the day, the duo of star all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel went on to make an unbeaten partnership of 63 runs for the eighth wicket. After his brilliant 3 wickets with the ball, Jadeja also impressed with the bat and scored unbeaten 81 runs off 155 balls, with 7 fours and 2 sixes at the end of the second day’s play, alongside Axar Patel, who went unbeaten at the score of 35 runs, with 5 fours and a six.

Eventually, India finished the second day with a lead of 175 runs in the first innings; Rohit Sharma’s men might look ahead to increase this lead in the third day’s first session to put England in trouble.
