India has announced their squad for the 5-match T20I series against Australia. They lost the final against the Kangaroos of the ODI World Cup 2023. Suryakumar will be captaining an Indian team for the first time. During the IPL 2023 season, the No. 1 T20I batter did captaincy in the absence of Rohit Sharma. 

Only Surya and Ishan Kishan are part of the T20I squad who were present at the World Cup squad as well. The rest of the players have been rested. Ruturaj Gaikwad will be the vice-captain for the first three matches. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) opener had given a gold medal to India at the Asian Games 2022. Rinku Singh, who has been called the batter was impressive on his debut against Ireland and played well. Tilak Varma and Yashavsi Jaiswal have also rejoined the Indian squad.

VVS Laxman will be the coach for the side. As India’s head coach Rahul Dravid’s tenure has ended on the day of the final. There has been no decision being taken on whether the former India skipper will continue as the coach or not.

Dravid throws light on coaching India

Dravid was questioned after India's loss in the final about his coaching tenure, he said, "I haven't thought about it. I've just come off a game. I had no time to think about this and no time to reflect on this. Yeah, I will when I get the time to do that. At this point, I was completely focused on this campaign and there was nothing else on my mind. And I haven't given any other thought to what happens in the future."
